Blog Response #6
In all five novels, the main character or characters face adversity in one way or another. Describe how you view the character's challenges in your book, and talk about how your character handles the hardships and struggles. If you were in your main character/characters situation, how would you handle yourself? What would you do?
In Night, Elie faces many challenges. From Getting separated from his family to witnessing all the horrific things the Nazi's do. One way he coped with losing his family was staying close to his father and looking out for each other. But there is almost no way of coping what the Nazi's do. They do to many evil things to get over, and if you aren't always looking out you could possibly be the next one to be murdered. If i was the main character i would put my head down and do whatever they say. That's the best way to survive. I was also not give up any of my ration to other prisoners regardless who they are that's how you become a muselman.
ReplyDeleteThere are some similarities between Elie's relationship with his father and Malala's relationship with her father. With the horrors of the Taliban, Malala only had her and her family, specifically her father. She seemed to have a strong bond with her whole family. A lot of the book talks about the relationship Malala has with her father and how they stick together through everything.
DeleteI agree with you because Elie also survives by sticking close to his father and keeping his head down. Just like you said, the Nazis were so brutal that there was basically no real way to cope. And the part about not giving up rations connects too, since Elie sees how fast people become weak or “Muselmans” when they don’t have enough food. Both your response and the book show how survival meant making hard choices.
DeleteI agree i would also do whatever im told to do just like Elie so i could survive. He did start giving his rations to his dad when he was dying which i did not understand since he was going to die either way.
Deletei agree, i would just listen to what they tell me to do to survive.
DeleteIn Night, Elie faces huge challenges as he’s taken to Auschwitz and then Buna. His main struggle is trying to survive while staying close to his father. He deals with hunger, fear, and beatings, but he keeps going because he doesn’t want to lose him. Elie also starts questioning his faith after seeing so much cruelty. Even though he feels himself changing, he still tries to protect his father. If I were in his situation, I don’t think I’d stay as strong. I’d try to stick with my family, but it would be extremely hard. Elie’s early experiences show how fast someone can be forced to grow up in terrible conditions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about not staying strong, I think i would give up very fast and just want to go home. Being there would be very hard to stay alive while also being with his dad.
Deletethe author of Night handled his situation rather well with all things considered. for someone so young and had before everything grew up in a rather privileged family. To be thrown into a place of mess and filth, chaos and despair with the ever-overhanging threat of being killed for breathing wrong looming overhead. This boy handles it in such a resilient stride, he doesn't complain or groan or grieve. he takes it all in such a way that leads him not to shed a tear. If i was in that situation i'd probably be one of the first dead, I would scream and jump and break so easily in a place like that. the threat of death all around me my lead me to take it into my own hands before they can take that last right from me. its an extremely devastating time to be alive especially for the jewish people.
ReplyDeleteI can see some parallels between the bravery of Malala and Elie. Malala was brave throughout every event she described in her book. Both of them were very young during the horrors they experienced, whether that be Nazi Germany or the Taliban. It is incredible what they achieved being so young yet so brave. I also agree and know that if I experienced anything Malala did, I would never have made it as far as she did.
DeleteI agree with what you said about his strength, especially at such a young age in a terrifying situation. It actually reminds me of Malala because she also stayed strong while facing scary situations and fear. Even though their situations were very different, both of them showed a lot of courage and resilience to survive. It really shows how people can find strength in the hardest moments.
DeleteIn A Long Way Gone, Ishmael faces many different hardships such as being separated from his family, running from the rebels, and being forced to fight in the war. It is horrible to imagine Ishmael being in this position at just 14 years old. Nonetheless, he pushes through it. He gets through the separation by finding another group of boys to flee with. He survives constantly being on the run by looking for villages (both abandoned or inhabited) to find food or shelter in. It is hard to say exactly how I would handle myself if I were in his situation. I'd like to think I'd be able to do like he did, and survive, however I do not know for certain. The stress of situations like that can do weird things to a person. I hope I never have to find out.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about the hardships in A Long Way Gone. It’s crazy to think that Ishmael went through all of that at such a young age. Being separated from his family, constantly running, and being forced to fight are all things no kid should have to deal with. So, even though I read The Kite Runner, I noticed some similar ideas like having to grow up too fast because of violence and conflict. I also agree with you that it’s hard to know how you’d react in that situation. I like to think I would survive too, but you really don’t know until you’re put into a situation like that.
DeleteI agree, both Mariam and Laila go through a lot of betrayal and abuse, and Rasheed is really the main source of that pain for both of them. What stands out most is how their relationship with each other becomes what helps them survive everything, even when things get dangerous. It really shows how strong they have to be just to keep going in that kind of life.
DeleteI agree! The main character of the book I am currently reading is facing many hardships similar to the ones you are describing in your book. I think that the characters in all five novels are going through extreme hardships, and I agree with the statement you say at the end that you would never want to have to deal with it. It would be an extremely tough situation to overcome, and I wouldn't want to face it either.
DeleteA Long Way Gone definitely has a connection with the book Night by Elie Wiesel. In Night, Elie was also separated from his family, with the only person left with him being his father. At such a young age, Elie has to deal with the horrors of the Holocaust and had to be separated from his family.
DeleteI like how you pointed out the different ways Ishmael survives, especially finding a group and searching villages for food and shelter. I also agree with what you said at the end situations like that are so extreme that it’s hard to truly know how anyone would react until they’re actually in it.
DeleteIn A Thousand Splendid Suns, both Mariam and Laila experience a significant amount of hardship in the form of betrayal and abuse. to start, Mariam is betrayed and essentially thrown away by her father and then given to a suitor (Rasheed) who actively abuses her for not giving him a son. Laila also experiences betrayal from the world itself, as a missile hits and kills both her friends and family, shortly after, she would also be abused by Rasheed. Despite how difficult living like this would be, the 2 of them support eachother and put up with the disrespect and continue to fight for themselves even if it is dangerous and could potentially kill them, which i don't think I'd be able to do myself
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about the hardship and betrayal in A Thousand Splendid Suns. Even though I read The Kite Runner, I noticed similar things. In The Kite Runner, Amir also betrays Hassan by not standing up for him, and he deals with this guilt that follows Amir for a long time. I also liked how you mentioned Mariam and Laila supporting each other. Having that kind of relationship really helps people get through hard times. I also agree with you that it’s hard to imagine going through something like that, and I’m not sure I could handle it either.
Deletein Night by Elie Weisel he faces many different situations. he is moved between camps and his family was split up. he gets beat and is always hungry, but he keeps going. he keeps moving because he wants to stay with his father, and after a while he starts to loose his faith. if i was in his situation i dont think i would have been able to keep moving.
ReplyDeletei agree with you, i think it would be hard to keep going
DeleteMalala handled the challenges in her books surprisingly well for someone so young who saw the horrors of the Taliban. She continued to speak out against the Taliban and for education even after she knew about the threats against her and her father. This mentality that Malala has kept her brave, which I know I could never do. One of the strongest things Malala did was not cry. She said back in Swat, she cried all the time. However, when she was in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, she did not cry once until her parents had come from Pakistan to see her. Even when she had injections in her neck or when staples were removed from her head. If I were in her situation, I know that I would not be nearly as brave as she. However, her situation was very different from that of many girls in Pakistan. Malala had a super supportive family. Her father encouraged her and her opinions on education, which is most of the reason she turned out the way she did.
ReplyDeleteThe main character in Night, Elie, doesn't really cry when going through struggles similarly to Malala. Also he has his father as well to support him through it, which is one of the reasons he survives.
DeleteI agree with what you said about Malala’s bravery, especially how she stayed strong even in the hospital. It’s crazy to think about how much she went through at such a young age. I also like your point about her family, because her dad really helped shape her confidence. I think that support made a big difference in how she handled everything.
DeleteYour statement here just further proves that family support means everything when it comes to a child's confidence when dealing with stress and overwhelm. she was able to go through what she did with such a stride because she knew she had that support behind her.
DeleteIn The Kite Runner, the main character Amir goes through a guilt felt life , both from Hassan and from his own choices. One of the biggest struggles Amir faces is the guilt he feels after betraying his best friend, Hassan. When Hassan is being hurt, Amir is too scared to step in and help, and that moment stays with him for the rest of his life. He also deals with problems like trying to earn his father’s approval, leaving Afghanistan because of war, and adjusting to a new life in America. At first, Amir doesn’t handle his problems very well. He avoids thinking about what he did and tries to move on. But as he gets older, that guilt follows him and eventually, he goes back to Afghanistan to help Hassan’s son. This kind of shows that he is trying to make up for what he did in the past. If I were in Amir’s situation, I would of have helped Hassan in the moment, even though it would have been terrifying but it would be better than Standing by and doing nothing because the guilt would be hard to live with would be hard to live with. If I made the same mistake, I would try to admit it sooner instead of hiding from it and keeping it from other people. I think if you tell someone earlier it would make things better in the long run.
ReplyDeleteThe author of Night, Elie, faces trial after trial in the book, where one wrong move means death. The challenges include surviving death camps such as Auschwitz, marching through miles of snow, being injured, trying to take care of his father, and his separation from his entire family. It's insane how he survives even while taking care of his father. I think this is due to him becoming desensitized to the horrors happening around him; he becomes emotionally numb and just keeps moving forward. I don't think I could become emotionally deprived like him, and such a husk of a person after dealing with what he dealt with. This is the best way to survive. Maybe the hope that my mother and sister are still out there would keep me moving, but I don't know if I would cling to life like him or just collapse out of sadness.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the Holocaust was a tragic events that negatively affected people in many different ways, and was not something that people could simply easily overcome. The Holocaust was full of death, pain, and suffering, which played a pivotal role in shaping the lives full of suffering experienced by holocaust victims. It still baffles me that Nazis inflicted as much violence on innocent people as they did, and makes me have empathy for any and all holocaust victims.
DeleteI agree. I think his faith is also what's keeping him going. Throughout the book, a lot of people including Elie and his father have been praying and reciting verses from their bible in the hopes their God will help save them from the torture they've went through. But even then, their faith seems to be fading as time goes on.
Deletei agree it would be pretty hard to not give up but my family would be the reason to try my hardest to keep going.
Deletethe holocaust is a horrific event in itself, surviving something that horrible and being able to tell the story is one of the best examples of overcoming adversity in an environment that wants you to fail
Deletein a long way gone ishmael faces the hardships of the rebels taking over sierra leone. ismael has to worry has to worry about losing his life but also being forced into the rebel army if he is caught alive. in the book it seems that ishmael dosent have time to process the loss of his parent or his village because he is constantly running for his life
ReplyDeleteI agree, and I like how you pointed out that Ishmael doesn’t even have time to process his loss. That constant fear and running really shows how the war forces him into survival mode, where he can’t grieve or think he just has to keep going.
Deletethe fight or flight response when coursing through the human form long term can cause significant damage on both the mind and body. so it makes entire sense that he would be struggling to process what's going on around him when his body is only screaming at him to survive.
DeleteI agree with you on Ishmael not having time to process his losses along with everything else going on around him. For Ishmael that is a lot to process at such a young age.
Deletethat was really good i like how you explained both mariam and laila and how they go through similar struggles but still stay strong. i agree with you too it would be really hard to go through all that and keep pushing forward like they did it just shows how strong they really are and how much they rely on each other to survive
DeleteIn A Thousand Splendid Suns, both Mariam and Laila go through intense suffering, including betrayal and abuse. Mariam is rejected by her father and forced into a marriage with Rasheed, who mistreats her for not giving him a son. Laila also faces tragedy when a missile kills her family, and she later suffers abuse from Rasheed as well. Even through everything, they both support each other and find the strength to keep going even when it’s dangerous.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I don’t think I would be as strong as they are. Living through that kind of fear and pain every day would be incredibly difficult and it’s hard to imagine being able to tolerate it the way they do.
I also agree that this book is awful. The things that Laila and Mariam have to go through, like betrayal and abuse, like you said above, I also don't know how I would cope with all this, it would be awful to be in their life dealing with this trauma.
DeleteI am also reading the book A Thousand Splendid Suns, and I agree with the way that you do not know how Mariam and Laila deal with Rasheed, his abuse, and how they keep enough strength to support each other. If I were in their situation I think I would have already tried to escape or do something to get away from Rasheed's abuse and nasty self.
DeleteI am also reading a thousand splendid suns, and I agree with your statement that it would be very hard to stay as strong as they are. I think that they show incredible resilience throughout the entire book, one that I would never be able to posess. I think that one thing that Miriam was blessed and cursed with growing up was having a mother that self sabotaged and blamed constantly placed blame. I think that this helped Miriam build up strength before she truly needed it.
DeleteI agree as its very bad what they both went through. They both stayed calm and peaceful as all of this is happening to them. I could never do that.
DeleteI also agree this book is terrible to read just because of the reading about the abuse how descriptive it is when the beatings happen yet the two women are calm about it. I could never.
Deletein A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam and Laila face a lot of hardship through war, loss, and abuse, especially from Rasheed. Mariam feels unwanted from childhood, and Laila loses her family and ends up in the same situation.
ReplyDeleteThey cope by slowly supporting each other, which helps them survive their situation. If I were in their position, I think it would be very difficult to stay strong, and I would try to find a way out if I could, but their choices are very limited.
I also agree, I think Laila and Mariam's lives are horrible, having to deal with all their trauma, but I would also say the same thing if I were in their shoes.
DeleteI agree that Night Elie and his dad support and take care of each other because they are each other's only person left. Because of their hardships, they have been separated from everyone, and each other is the only reason they have made it this far. I think if I had a close bond with someone in such bad circumstances, it would help me keep going, too.
Deletethat is kinda like the book night that i am reading My character is struggling to stay strong but whats keeping him going is his father. both him and his father motivate eachother to keep going.
DeleteYour response about A Thousand Splendid Suns connects a lot to Night because both books show characters surviving extreme hardship through relationships. Just like Mariam and Laila rely on each other, Elie survives by staying close to his father. Both stories show how war, loss, and cruelty force people into situations where their choices are limited. And in both books, the characters find strength in the one person they can still trust, even when everything else is falling apart.
DeleteIn A Thousand Splendid Suns, there are many main characters: Mariam, Laila, and Rasheed. From Laila and Mariam's perspective, they are treated horribly; they are abused by Rasheed, choked, starved, and all in all treated very unfairly. A challenge that Mariam goes through are miscarriages. Laila has many children, but Rasheed only cares for the male children, acting like they are his right-hand man. An awful event that happened was Laila sending her daughter off to a foster home because of how bad her situation was at home. Another situation that Mariam and Laila had was trying to escape and use another man as a relative, but this failed, and they returned home to an abusive Rasheed. If I were in Mariam and Laila's perspective, I don't know how I would endure all of this. I couldn't just stand there and be helpless, though.
ReplyDeleteI am reading the kite runner and I agree, I don't know how I would endure all of the stuff that is thrown at the characters, but I wouldn't be able to stand helplessly.
DeleteYour characters face some of the same challenges as Elie does in Night. He's treated poorly by the SS officers and starved and beaten.
DeleteI truly don't know how the can endure all the pain and abuse. Their lives changed so fast from having freedom to being locked in an old mans house forced to do as he wants.
DeleteIn I Am Malala, Malala faces serious challenges because the Taliban is trying to stop girls from going to school and speaking out. She handles these hardships by staying brave and continuing to fight for education, even when she is scared. Malala doesn’t give up, even after being attacked, which shows how strong she is. I think her challenges are very intense because she risks her life just to learn and speak. If I were in her situation, I would hope to be as brave as her, but I might be more scared and quiet at first before finding the courage to stand up.
ReplyDeleteIn the book A Thousand Splendid Suns the Taliban also comes and adds restrictions to girls attending school and much more. Unlike Malala in your book Mariam and Laila stay quiet and just follow rules in fear of getting punished.
DeleteIn my book The Kite Runner, My mine character is also faced with adversity due to the Taliban taking over control in Afghanistan. Hassan another important character in the story is ultimately killed by the taliban and this puts great turmoil into the storyline.
DeleteIn the book I am currently reading, The Kite Runner, the main character named Amir is facing many hardships in his life right now. The first one of those hardships was the loss of his father, Baba. Baba played a major role in Amir's life because he was his father, and losing someone that close to you is extremely tough to overcome. Alongside this, Amir is also facing issues regarding the true identity of many people close to him, including the fact that Baba is actually the biological father of Hassan, not Ali. Amir doesn't handle these hardships the best though, and repeatedly brings up how he feels responsible for all of it time and time again throughout the story. Amir also repeatedly brings up that him not helping Hassan in the alleyway has shaped who he is as a person, and that is someone who lacks confidence and courage in themselves. If I were Amir, I would not handle those challenges in the same way. If I were Amir, I would back-track to the alleyway and assess why I didn't help Hassan. It not only would provide more closure on the situation, but I also feel that if you can learn from past mistakes you have made, you can move forward in life later on. I feel like Amir is currently struggling to do this, which is ultimately wreaking havoc on both himself and his self-confidence.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on trying to get closure over the situation. Both Amir and Hassan don't seem to get any closer with the situation. I feel like if they would have talked about the situation then it would have helped their relationship
DeleteIn the book A Thousand Splendid Suns both of the main characters face adversity. Mariam is the unwanted child that gets married off to Rasheed, a 40 something year old man, at the age of 15. She also suffers many miscarriages, and doesn't fulfill Rasheed's desire to have a son. Laila's parents died and she went deaf in one ear from a rocket hitting their house. She got married to Rasheed when she was 13 and he was 60 something because she got pregnant from her best friend, and he was the coverup. Both of the characters suffer a ton of abuse from their husband Rasheed where he locks them up, starves them, knocks out teeth, and whips them with a belt. They attempt to leave, but they get caught and punished even more by Rasheed. If I were Mariam and Laila I would have left Rasheed or killed him long before they did. I think that in that time period and in their country it was more normal for situations like arranged marriages, abuse, and polygamy to happen, but I personally would stick up for myself instead of doing something to please others.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the thought that if I was Laila or Miriam, I would have tried to leave earlier. I do not think that I would be able to kill someone purposefully though, no matter how mad he made me. I think that it would be very hard for me to live in a place of arranged marriages and to share a spouse, but I wonder if it would feel less weird and foreign if I grew up in it.
DeleteI think i would probably have killed him earlier so there was less abuse and the kids wouldn't have to suffer when they did. Plus they were able to get away easier and find a way to get themselves somewhere better for them to continue their life.
DeleteI am reading the kite runner and the main character, Amir faces a lot of adversity and challenges. For one, stating the obvious, the war that is going on in his country, and one other big one is one of the other main characters, Hassan. Hassan is from a different culture/country/region and he faces a lot of adversity from people in the area, which in turn becomes a bullying situation. A lot happened to Hassan because of the way he looks. When everything was happening to Hassan he kind of just pushed in back and let it be and didn't stand up for himself. If I was in Hassan's situation I don't know what I would have done. I feel like it would have been hard to stand up for myself because of the way the cultures are separated in that area of the world.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this because it would be very difficult to stand up when your very different from everyone else. If i was in his shoes i would just try my best to not let it effect who i am and ignore them.
DeleteIn this book, Miriam has faced many challenges starting with the suicide of her mother, abuse from her arrainged husband, and the inability to conceive children. Through all of life, Miriam was able to handle these challenges with grace and patience. Even when Miriam was fighting for her life against the abuse of Rasheed, she was able to maintain a positive attitude that continued to save her from higher abuse. Rasheed appears to deal with feelings of insuperiority against the other men in his community, he is very possessive of both Miriam and Laila, and this is because he lost his wife and son, and may now feel like he needs to show off his "perfect life". Rather than using this hurt as strength to push forward like miriam did. If I was Miriam, I would not be able to keep my composure, and would probably end up accidentally flipping my lid and getting myself injured. If I was rasheed in this society, I am not sure how I would react or act in this situation. I feel as though these people put a lot of pressure on the perfect life, that it may come out as anger. I do not think that I would cause this much hurt or harm, but I also do not think that I would fully be able to handle the pressure well.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this because overall Marium stayed calm throughout all of the hard times.
DeleteIn the book Night, the main character Elie Wiesel faces many challenged throughout the book. He's involved in arguably the worst genocide to ever take place in history, and has been tortured for months on end along with his father. He has been beat to the ground as well as starved and worked to death. The way he copes with it though, is through his religion and even his faith in that is fading. He and his father stay strong through faith, hoping their God will save them and end the torture they've endured.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Elie uses his faith to help him through it all, but when he starts to lose his faith he really relys on his father to keep him going.
DeleteElie is very strong in the start but as his father drifts away, and is sent to a different part of camp, Elie really begins to struggle after this and is on the verge of giving up.
DeleteIn the book A Thousand Splendid Suns Marium and Laila face the hard challenge of marriage and handling betrayal. Marium also faces the hard challenge of her mothers suicide and abuse from her husband. Marium overall is very calm about the whole situation . If I was Marium I would probably do something about the abuse and freak out. Pretty much would do the opposite of Marium.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, if I was facing this type of abuse for most of my life I would probably be in jail because i would never let a person keep abusing me like what is happening to them in this book. But then again they view this as normal in their culture so i guess id also understand in some way, not a lot though.
DeleteI am reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, and the main challenge that the two wives face more than anything is simply being married to Rasheed. Miriam and Laila try to handle being married to this awful person by confiding in each other. By taking care of the children and taking care of each other they can some what cope with these things especially during the war and the terrible drought going on which forces the whole family to leave due to lack of food and water. I think they are just trying to do their best at this point with the what the characters are offered in this situation.
ReplyDeleteIn A Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beah faces extreme adversity as he is forced to survive during a brutal civil war after being separated from his family. He deals with constant fear, hunger, and eventually is forced into becoming a child soldier, which takes away his innocence. At first, he tries to hold onto hope and memories of his past, but over time he adapts to the violence around him in order to survive. If I were in his situation, I would likely do whatever it took to stay alive, even if it meant making difficult or morally wrong choices. However, I would hope I could still hold onto my identity like Ishmael eventually does, showing how strong someone has to be to endure that kind of hardship.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, in the situation Ishmael was in I would also do whatever it takes to stay alive. It's either life or death so I would do whatever I could to stay alive.
Deletein the book night Elie is going through a lot and has many challenges. Elie is fighting to survive he is being tortured, over worked and being starved. Him and the other prisoners are feeling so weak that they just feel like giving up. The thing that is keeping Elie going is being with his dad and he doesnt want to give up because he thinks that will make his dad give up too. If this was me i probably think about giving up because i dont know if i could do what hes doing but If i was with my dad like he was that would also give me motivation to keep going.
ReplyDeleteIn the book a thousand splendid suns it kind of relates to my book because both Mariam and Laila go through so many different struggles together and alone and they both go though a lot of different types of abuse like Ellie

ReplyDeleteIn my book The Kite Runner the main character Amir faces a lot of adversity. I would say the main point where he faces the most adversity is when he went and followed Hassan when he was chasing down a kite and saw he getting beat up in an alley. He proceeded to sit back and watch instead of stepping in and helping. This cause him to feel super guilty and was a turning point in the book. He then couldn't even look at Hassan because of what he didn't do in the alley. If I was Amir i would've at least tried to help Hassan because it would've been better than doing nothing. If i sat there and did nothing i would've tried to tell Hassan in a way or try to make it up to him even though it would be very difficult.
ReplyDeleteIn The Kite Runner, Amir goes through a lot of hard situations, mostly because he feels guilty about what he did to Hassan. Instead of telling the truth, he avoids the problem and pretends everything is fine, which makes things worse over time. Later in the story, Amir finally tries to fix his mistakes by going back and helping Sohrab, which shows he is changing and wants to do the right thing. If I were in Amir’s situation, I would try to tell the truth earlier, even though it would be scary, because hiding it only causes more problems. I understand why Amir was afraid, but I think being honest sooner would have been better. Overall, Amir shows that people can learn from their mistakes and try to make things right.
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir hiding what he did to Hassan only makes him feel worse. If he would've said something to Hassan he would've not felt as guilty about the situation.
Deletein the book a thousand splendid suns both of the main characters go through a lot of hard times and they both face relationship abuse because one is forced into a marriage in the other house to bury because she’s pregnant and if you’re pregnant and unmarried, it’s a big problem in the book in my eyes, this is something no one should ever have to go through because abuse can affect you short term and long-term if I was Miriam or
ReplyDeleteLaila I think it would be very hard to cope with everything, especially with your mental problems because mental health wasn’t a big thing, but knowing that you’re going through all that abuse, it would really affect your mental health and Miriam being married to her husband who is abusive you can tell she is very depressed throughout the book because of how he treats her
this book relates this to the book kite runner the main character amir faces a lot of hard ships throughout it all and usually runs away until now when he decides to face his past head on instead of running away.
DeleteIn A Long Way Gone, the main character Ishmael faces many challenges most people couldn't bare to face. Ishmael is split up from his family after he returns to his town only to be torched and see everyone he knows get shot. This happens again after he locates where his family is staying later in the book but when he arrives the same thing is happening. Ishmael had to spend months living in a forest and on the run from the horrific war around him, the thing that made him hang on for so long was being around his friends for most of his journey. If I was Ishmael I would stick with the people I know and push as hard as I can because it's life or death. If you stop moving farther away from the Rebels you will be tortured and killed so I would just keep on running as long and as far as I could.
ReplyDeleteIn Night, Elie and his father were also split up from his mother and sister. We can infer that they are killed right after the separation because they saw women and children as weaker than the men.The only thing that kept him hanging on was his father, like Ishmael was surviving because of his friends.
DeleteI agree with you on what you would do in Ishmaels shoes. I would also stick with my friends and keep moving forward to stay ahead of the rebels
DeleteIn A Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beah faces extreme challenges during the civil war in Sierra Leone. He loses his family, is forced to survive on his own, and is eventually turned into a child soldier. One of his biggest struggles is losing his innocence, he goes from being a normal kid to someone feared by violence. This shows how strong he is and how important support from others can be. If I were in his situation, I think it would be really hard not to change in negative ways. I would hope to stay strong, but I’d probably struggle a lot like he did. I’d try to rely on people who care about me and find ways to cope, like talking about what I went through. Ishmael’s story shows that even after serious trauma, it’s possible to recover and move forward.
ReplyDeletethe characters form our book face the same problem your main characters family was taken from him just the main character from my book
DeleteIn Night, Elie faces many different challenges. He is split up from his mom and sister staying with his dad until he dies. He handles his struggles very well, if he gets beat or anything he just lets it happen because he knows if he fights back he will end up dead. Everything he does it to make sure he lives. I would probably do the same just try to survive but if i got to the point were I was done i would just stop caring.
ReplyDeleteIn The Kite Runner and from what I have read in your response about Night, both characters go through hard things, but it’s different. In Night, Elie is just trying to stay alive, so he does whatever he has to and doesn’t fight back. In The Kite Runner, Amir isn’t trying to survive like that, he feels really bad about what he did to Hassan. At first he ignores it, but later he tries to fix it. So Elie is focused on surviving, and Amir is focused on fixing his mistakes.
DeleteIn Night, Elie is subjected to forced labor, beatings, and starvation but he seems to handle it well despite his circumstances. He's not gone crazy and keeps his will to live as long as his father is okay. If I were in the main character's point of view I probably would not have made it past the first week at Auschwitz. In those concentration camps, the prisoners had no choice over anything they did whatsoever and I do not know If I could keep my will to survive under those circumstances.
ReplyDeletei agree with you i don't think i could survive under those circumstances either like Elie did
DeleteI agree with this comment because there is no chance I would survive much past a week if that. Im pretty mentally tough but not good enough to do that.
Deletei agree i think his dad kept him going through all the hardships

ReplyDeleteIn Night, Eliezer faces extreme challenges during the Holocaust including hunger fear and constant danger in concentration camps. One of his biggest struggles is losing his faith in God after witnessing so much suffering and cruelty. This affects him deeply because his faith was very important to him at the beginning of the story. He handles these hardships by slowly becoming emotionally numb which helps him survive in such a harsh environment. Even though he is struggling he still tries to take care of his father and their relationship gives him a reason to keep going. At times, he feels weak and hopeless but he continues to push forward. If I were in his situation, I think it would be extremely difficult. I would try to stay strong and stick close to my family like Eliezer does. I would focus on surviving one day at a time and try to hold onto hope and my values, even though it would be really hard in that kind of situation.
ReplyDeletein my book kite runner the main character Amir faces similar challenges in Afghanistan during the Afghan soviet war. and with his one friend hassan.
Deleteis a way this is the same as my book the kite runner in afghanistan during the afgahan and soviet war
DeleteIn my book the main character also faces similar challenges to your main character, Ishmael faces danger, hunger, and fear the whole time throughout the book so far. Its seems in your book there is a lot of that also.
ReplyDeleteIn the book night, Elie faces a lot of problems in the book. Him and his dad are constantly beaten, starved, and challenged. I think he handles all of these problems very well for a 15 year old. He has seen way to many things for A 15 year old and seeing someone be hung at 15 years old is quite a lot. I dont think there is anyway if i was 15 that i could handle what he has gone through. i would have gave up a long time ago more then likely.
ReplyDeletea very good book and scary reality
DeleteIshmael faces extreme adversity as he is forced to flee his home during the civil war, loses his family, and is eventually turned into a child soldier. His challenges are both physical like finding food, avoiding danger, and surviving attacks and mental, as he deals with fear, loss, and being influenced into violence. I view his situation as overwhelming because he is so young and is forced to grow up quickly in a world where survival often means hurting others. He handles these hardships by adapting to his surroundings, forming small friendships, and doing whatever he must to stay alive, even when it changes who he is. If I were in his situation, I would try to stay with people I trust.
ReplyDeleteIn my book Kite Runner Amir faces serious emotional and moral challenges, especially after he witnesses his good friend Hassan being beaten up and chooses not to help which fills him with guilt and leads him to betray Hassan further even after escaping Afghanistan during the Soviet Afghan War and starting a new life in America, Amir cannot escape his shame and spends years struggling internally until he is given a chance to redeem himself by rescuing Hassan’s son, which shows his growth as he finally confronts danger and takes responsibility instead of running away Amir handles his hardships by initially avoiding them but eventually facing them, showing that people can change and seek redemption, and if I were in his situation, I would hope to act more courageously from the beginning by standing up for Hassan and being honest about my mistakes sooner, though I understand fear could still affect my choices, so I would focus on taking responsibility quickly and trying to make things right instead of hiding from the consequences.
ReplyDeleteI feel as if you did a great job answering this vlog good job.
Deletein the book night, the kid is faced with horrors beyond anything he's seen before, hes been beaten and robbed lots of times in the book, he tries to trust others and make friends but he quickly loses his hope and hes driven to despair and loneliness only to rely on his dad to keep them both safe
ReplyDeleteIn the book Night, Eliezer faces extreme challenges during the Holocaust, like being separated from his family, starving, and living in constant fear. One of the hardest parts is watching his father suffer while trying to survive himself. He handles these struggles by staying focused on survival and sticking by his father, even when he starts to lose hope. i would try to stay positive and think of the best possible things
ReplyDeleteIn The Kite Runner, the main character Amir is going through several hard situations. One of the biggest is losing his father, Baba, who was very important to him. Losing someone so close is very difficult. Amir also learns shocking truths about people in his life, like finding out Baba is actually Hassan’s real father. Amir struggles to cope with these problems. He often blames himself and feels guilty, especially about not helping Hassan in the alley. He believes this moment made him into someone who lacks confidence and courage. If I were Amir, I would handle things differently. I would think back to the alley incident and try to understand why I didn’t help Hassan. Learning from that mistake could help me find closure and grow as a person. Amir seems to have a hard time doing this, and it is hurting both him and his self-confidence.
